PBA temporarily suspends games due to Delta variant

The Philippine Basketball Association will temporarily halt their ongoing 46th season as COVID-19 woes started again around Metro Manila.

Due to the rising cases of the Delta variant, the government decided to place Metro Manila under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) again.

Because the venue of the PBA games is held at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City, the board decided to submit a letter to the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for a venue transfer.

The PBA will then relocate and play their games in Lipa City, Batangas where they will adapt another closed-circuit format if the letter will be approved.

Until such time that the letter will receive its stamp of approval from the IATF, commissioner Willie Marcial and the rest of the PBA board decided to stop all games in the meantime.

PBA’s leading team as of now are the Magnolia Hotshots Pambansang Manok with an undefeated 4-0 record followed by TNT Tropang Giga at 3-0.

Meanwhile, defending champions Brgy. Ginebra is in a 2-2 slate while the San Miguel Beermen backstopped by returning six-time PBA MVP June Mar Fajardo are up to an ideal start with 3-1.
