Old habits never die, indeed.
John Amores, a current PBA player who is under contract with the NorthPort Batang Pier, was recently involved in a shooting incident in Laguna on September 25, 2024.
In several CCTV angles in Barangay Maytalang Uno where Amores was seen with his brother, he was caught firing a gun at Lee Cacalda, the person whom he argued with.
A footage went viral on social media where Cacalda was daring Amores to a fight in the local basketball court, but the PBA guard went away with his brother riding a motorcycle.
At around 5 PM that day, Amores and his brother set their sights on Cacalda, and that’s when the shooting incident happened.
After Amores popped his firearm, they left quickly to an unknown location, but later on voluntarily surrendered to the Lumban, Laguna, police station.
ABS-CBN news reported that it was their sibling who facilitated and coordinated with the Lumban police authorities as death threats started to pile up in an intense Thursday evening.
“Nagkaroon ng dayo sa Barangay Salac. Meron silang tawag na hindi napagkasunduan. Nagsimula doon sa hindi pagkakasunduan then nagkaroon ng hamunan ng suntukan hanggang umabot sila sa Barangay Maytalang Uno at doon sila nagpang-abot. Naghamunan ulit ng another suntukan. Si John Amores ay may dala ng baril at pinaputukan na itong ating victim,” said PMaj. Bob Louis Ordiz to ABS-CBN.
As of now, the PBA and Amores’ mother team, NorthPort, are yet to release their final verdict on whether they will terminate his professional contract or slap him with a major penalty.
Two years ago, Amores made major headlines when he went berserk in an NCAA game when he was still playing for the Jose Rizal University.
That game, Amores rushed to the bench of College Saint Benilde and threw haymakers to Mark Sangco, Jimboy Pasturan, and Taine Davis.
Sangco was Amores’ main target, while Pasturan and Davis only became casualties when Amores landed wild punches to any CSB player trying to contain him in that heated moment.
Yikes. Will Amores’ professional career be soon over?
