The PBA office did not take Japeth Aguilar and Adrian Wong’s violation lightly after the board together with commissioner Willie Marcial decided to slap them both with penalties.
Commissioner Willie Marcial confirmed that they decided to give Aguilar and Wong a 20,000 pesos-fine each for breaking General Community Quarantine (GCQ) safety protocols after playing a 5-on-5 scrimmage game which is still prohibited under contact sports.
Aguilar and Wong were also tasked to take a swab test and will have to undergo a 14-day quarantine before getting clearance.
Aside from the fine, the PBA also handed down a 30-hour community service on the duo with no specific guidelines whether they’ll do it in PBA premises or their own homes.
Also present in the meeting were PBA head of operations Eric Castro, legal counsel Melvin Mendoza, Games and Amusement Board (GAB) Commissioner Eduardo Trinidad, pro basketball and other pro-games division chief Dioscoro Bautista, and official Rodil Manaog.
During the videos that went viral online, Aguilar and Wong were together playing with Japan-bound Thirdy Ravena and 2019 no. 1 overall pick Isaac Go, who previously apologized to commissioner Marcial.
