A concrete road built by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Iloilo 4th District Engineering Office is benefiting residents of Barangay Quinaspan in the highland municipality of Alimodian in central Iloilo, as well as neighboring barangays.
The PHP 9.801 million project, funded under the FY 2025 Basic Infrastructure Program (BIP), involved the concrete paving of a 685-meter, two-lane Portland Cement Concrete Pavement (PCCP) road.
In his report to Regional Director Denise Maria M. Ayag, District Engineer Mario G. Soriano said the paved road will provide a better road network for improved mobility and easier transport of agricultural products from farms to markets.
“This upgraded road is essential towards economic development and growth in the locality, providing easier access to basic services and economic opportunities for an improved quality of life,” Soriano said.
Soriano added that the improved road provides residents in remote barangays of Alimodian with uninterrupted, all-weather access to the town proper to secure their basic home and personal needs, even during heavy rains.
“They will no longer need to experience travel inconvenience they used to bear, making it easier for them to traverse the road going to the market and other government and private establishments in the town,” Soriano explained.
In addition, Ayag said the concrete road will ensure easier and cost-efficient transport of farm products and better access for government in delivering basic services to the people.
“This paved road traverses along vast agricultural lands; thus, it greatly benefits the people, especially producers of crops and other agricultural products, and animal raisers,” Ayag said. (DPWH)
