Paved access road in central Iloilo town mobilizes faster transport of farm products

Transport of agricultural products from the farms in Brgy. Guihaman and neighboring barangays in Leganes, Iloilo to the town proper and Iloilo City is now faster with the improved access road.

Undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Iloilo 4^th District Engineering Office, the access road from Brgy. Guihaman to Brgy. Buntatala in Leganes, Iloilo is now completed.

Costing ₱9.68 million funded through the Sustainable Infrastructure Project Alleviating Gaps (SIPAG) under the district’s 2022 Infrastructure Program, the project involves concreting of a 1.29-kilometer, 4.20-meter, 2-way Portland Concrete Cement Pavement (PCCP) access road.

Citing a report from OIC-District Engineer Mario G. Soriano, DPWH 6 Regional Director Nerie D. Bueno said this road makes a vital contribution to economic development and growth in the locality and provides easy access to basic services and economic opportunities for an improved quality of life.

“This paved road traverses along rice fields and other agricultural lands, hence, its improvement will greatly benefit the people in the, especially rice & vegetable farmers, and animal raisers,” Bueno.

“With this concrete road, we are hopeful that our farmers can easily transport their products from farms to the market, which could eventually help alleviate their economic condition.”

Meantime, OIC-District Engineer Mario G. Soriano said this road will provide access from Metro Iloilo Radial Road to Iloilo-Capiz Road (New Route), which is one of the main thoroughfares heading to northern Iloilo and neighboring provinces of Capiz and Aklan.

“This road will provide convenient alternate route from Leganes and other coastal towns of northern Iloilo to Iloilo International Airport, without passing along Iloilo Circumferential Road, reducing travel time and traffic congestion, considering of the ongoing construction of flyover in the metro,” District Engineer Mario G. Soriano said.

DPWH will continue to implement significant road projects that will connect our rural communities to main thoroughfares for faster transportation and easy access to basic government services. (DPWH-6)
