Paved access road augments tourism industry in southern NegOcc town

The tourism industry of Cauayan in southern Negros Occidental will be enhanced with the paving of an access road by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) that would encourage both local and foreign tourists to visit beautiful spots in the town.

Undertaken by PWH-Negros Occidental 3^rd District Engineering Office in convergence with the Department of Tourism (DOT), the ₱25.68-million project funded by the 2022 General Appropriations Act (GAA), includes the construction of a 1.04-kilometer Portland Concrete Cement Pavement (PCCP) road.

It also includes the construction of grouted riprap and stone masonry, provision of metal guardrails, application of thermoplastic pavement markings, and installation of 35 solar LED lights.

Citing a report from District Engineer Rodney A. Gustilo, DPWH-6 Regional Director Nerie D. Bueno stressed that the improved road is beneficial, especially to the tourism industry as it leads to tourist spots in the area.

“This concrete road provides access to Punta Bulata, one of the most visited tourist destinations in the town which offer pristine blue waters, majestic white beach, and quality resort to accommodate both local and foreign tourists,” Engr. Bueno said

“Hence, to promote the tourism industry in the town, the construction of the access road was aggressively undertaken by DPWH, in partnership with the Department of Tourism (DOT),” Bueno added

“This convergence project will boost tourism activities in this coastal part of Negros Occidental. The beautiful beaches and rich marine products in this area will allure potential goers to visit and experience nature’s scenic view, which in return, will bring economic development to the locals.”

Engr. Gustilo said the paved road will offer convenient transportation among tourists and faster and less costly transportation among the people in the locality.

“With the concrete road, fisherfolks can easily deliver their products to the market at a lower transport cost, bringing more income for their families. Likewise, residents will have better access to the main road going to government facilities for their social, health and educational needs, as well as faster access to health facilities in case of emergency,” Gustilo said.
