The speculations that Pau Gasol was retiring were proven false after the former NBA champion announced he is set to sign with Barcelona in the two Liga ACB.
Gasol started his basketball career with Barcelona in 1998 around 23 years ago.
“I’m very happy to announce that I’m coming home and that I’ll soon join the ranks of Barca’s basketball team. I’m happy to return to the club where I began, and I’m excited about this new opportunity; I hope to contribute to the team very soon,” said Gasol.
The Spanish star last played in the NBA when he was a member of the Milwaukee Bucks during the 2019 season but was cut short due to a series of surgeries that sidelined him from the game.
Tagged as “the best Spanish basketball player,” Gasol hopes to end his career with the team that witnessed him grow.
“I want to put my skills and experience at the disposal of the club at a key point in the season, while at the same time making progress in my physical condition and getting into the rhythm of the competition,” added Gasol.
