PARTICIPATE opens 2024 with second module of academy of Multiparty Democracy

Leaders and representatives of nine political parties gathered on January 15, 2024, at Seda Vertis North in Quezon City for the second module of the “Academy of Multiparty Democracy.

The training program is designed by the PARTICIPATE consortium, the Ateneo School of Government, and the La Salle Institute of Governance.

It aims to equip officials and representatives of various political parties with a comprehensive understanding of party politics to promote effective governance and strengthen democratic processes.

Composed of three modules, the program’s kick-off was held on November 27-29 of last year, while the third and final module will be held this coming February.

The second module is a three-day event that features the theme “Party as an Institution: Modern Political Party Management.”

Module 2 will lay out the legal environment for political parties in the Philippines, and will focus on the fundamentals of political management.

“Ideally, political parties are bearers of democracies. Weakly organized parties often lead to a weak democracy. There is an urgent need to professionalize the management of political parties in our country,” said Dr. Julio Teehankee, PARTICIPATE’s Chief of Party, noting that parties should operate regularly and not just be active during election season.

The Academy will continue to employ a multifaceted approach to maximize participant engagement and learning, and will be facilitated by experts in political science, governance, and party management.

All national and regional political parties and party list organizations are welcome to register for the third and final module, with the goal of training leaders who play vital roles within their parties and instill deep commitment to understand democratic processes.
