A seafarer is facing a parricide rap for allegedly hammering his father to death in Pototan, Iloilo.
Major Ciriaco Esquilarga, Pototan police chief, said they filed on Monday the case against Ericsson Jacolbe, 34, of Taft North, Mandurriao, Iloilo City, before the Iloilo Provincial Prosecutors Office.
Jacolbe was detained at the Pototan Police Station after allegedly killing his 61-year-old father Giovani Jacolbe.
The older Jacolbe’s body was found around 2 am of Dec. 12, 2020 inside the family’s home in Barangay Barasan.
Police reports indicated that the victim was on the floor and bathed in his blood.
It appeared that Ericsson attacked his father by repeatedly striking his head and face with a hammer.
The victim was declared dead at Iloilo Provincial Hospital in Pototan town.
When asked by investigators, the younger Jacolbe said he could not believe that he killed his father.
Most of the time, the suspect was seen staring, not in his usual self, and had been incoherent when talking.
Those who knew the suspect described him to be a good person.
He failed to return to work for around a year already and stayed at his live-in partner in Iloilo City.
On Dec 11, the suspect visited his father and brought the tricycle he planned to give him.
A family neighbor and friend claimed that Ericsson even taught his father how to drive the tricycle.
The duo later drank liquor in the evening.
Investigators are still clueless on what led to the grisly attack.
Esquilarga said they saw the victim’s body sprawled on the floor.
The victim had blood all over his hand and was at the house’s terrace. The hammer used in killing was also found in the area.
No other person was inside the house when the incident happened except the suspect’s 10-year-old son.
A neighbor, who is also a tricycle driver, discovered the victim’s body.
While the victim’s wife does not want to pursue any case against her son, the latter’s siblings stood as complainants against him.
