Initiated by the Public Employment Service Office of Buenavista in collaboration with the Department of Labor and Employment Regional (DOLE) Office 6, through its Guimaras Field Office, the job fair during the Palayag Festival on Jan. 14, 2026, in the municipality of Buenavista, Guimaras, provided jobseekers with employment opportunities.
“Palayag,” which means to sail using a water vessel, is an annual festival that features a job fair as one of the celebration’s highlights.
This year, 10 applicants were hired on the spot and were assured of employment, which is expected to improve their economic condition.
Engr. Shalimar T. Ganancial, officer in charge and head of the DOLE RO 6 Guimaras Field Office, highlighted the range of services available in the province.
Various private companies participated in the job fair, offering employment opportunities to jobseekers across different industries.
More than 300 vacancies, including customer service representatives, accounting clerks, cashiers, office clerks, logistics clerks and baggers, were offered by establishments from around the region.
Regional Director Atty. Sixto T. Rodriguez Jr. directed the DOLE Guimaras Field Office to monitor and assist 33 near-hired applicants who were required to undergo further interviews and submit additional requirements for employment.
“This is to reaffirm DOLE’s commitment in promoting decent work and fostering partnerships with local government units and stakeholders across various sectors,” Rodriguez said.
The job fair supports the Marcos administration’s job creation and poverty alleviation agenda by connecting jobseekers to decent employment and sustainable livelihood opportunities.
Brief explanation (optional): I corrected spelling and capitalization (including DOLE, PESO and job titles), standardized dates and hyphenation (hired on the spot, near-hired), tightened phrasing for clarity, and kept each paragraph focused on one idea while preserving all original details and the quoted statement.
