The second edition of the Pacquiao-Elorde Awards will recognize the top achievers in Philippine boxing and sports on March 20 at Okada Manila in Parañaque City.
The Elorde family, led by Liza and Johnny Elorde, is organizing the event in collaboration with boxing legend and former senator Manny Pacquiao.
Pacquiao, a member of the Elorde Hall of Fame, won Boxer of the Year honors for seven consecutive years during his prime.
“This is our way of giving honor to our boxers. And for this year, we will also honor (Paris Olympics double-gold winner) Carlos Yulo with the Sports Hero Award as well as (Paris bronze medalists) Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas,” said Liza Elorde at the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum.
The event will feature 70 awards, including Best Manager, Best Trainer, Boxer of the Year, and Fight of the Year.
Among the top honorees are Melvin Jerusalem (WBC minimumweight champion) and Pedro Taduran (IBF minimumweight champion).
Pacquiao and former DILG secretary Benhur Abalos will be in attendance, alongside Miguel Elorde, grandson of the late boxing great Gabriel “Flash” Elorde, and Alvin Magramo, who will headline an eight-fight boxing card starting at 1 p.m.
The awards ceremony will begin at 6 p.m.
“Pinaghandaan ko ng mabuti ito dahil kapag manalo ako, makakapasok ako sa WBC world rankings,” said Magramo, who will face knockout specialist Rene Mark Cuarto in the main bout.
The event is presented by San Miguel Corporation, Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee, Smart/PLDT, MILO, and Arena Plus.
