BACOLOD City A father hacked his son to death inside their house in Barangay Canturay in Sipalay City, Negros Occidental on May 20, 2019.
Killed was Art Gavilanes, 20.
Police Major John Joel Batusbatusan, city police chief, said Art was creating alarm and scandal when he went home drunk last Sunday.
His father, Loreto, 73 advised him to stay calm and be silent since his mother was sick but he did not listen.
The following day, Loreto allegedly attacked Art who was asleep, with a bolo.
The victim succumbed to five hack wounds on his head, shoulder, and neck.
Gavilanes usually becomes unruly when drunk, Batusbatusan said, adding that even their neighbors have been complaining about his behavior.
Batusbatusan said anger probably pushed Loreto to attack his son.
The suspect surrendered to the authorities but he was released on Tuesday afternoon after their family said they will not press charges against him.
