A 20-year-old student was injured following a petty quarrel with his father on April 12, 2020 in Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo.
Luckily, Jason Belandres, a resident of Barangay Talisay, only suffered a graze wound on his neck caused by his own father’s gun.
Jason was immediately discharged after receiving medical treatment on his minor injury.
Police Major Ramil Sarona, Barotac Nuevo police chief, said the incident happened after the suspect, 52-year-old Larry Belandres, asked his son to bring two sacks of feeds inside their house.
The victim did not immediately follow his father’s order until the two argued.
At the height of their argument, Larry allegedly drew a homemade 12-gauge shotgun.
“He claimed it was meant to frighten his son,” Sarona said.
Indeed, Jason got frightened that he grappled for possession of the firearm until it went off.
Sarona said the victim immediately signed an affidavit that he won’t hold his father, 52-year old Larry, criminally liable for what happened.
But said they still arrested Larry for violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).
