The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Carles has received PHP 78.8 million worth of infrastructure projects aimed at improving community facilities and strengthening coastal protection.
The projects were formally turned over by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Iloilo 3rd District Engineering Office through the support of 5th District Representative Binky April M. Tupas during a ceremony held on October 25 at Barangay Poblacion.
The projects include the PHP 19.6-million multi-purpose building and the PHP 59.28-million rehabilitation of the Poblacion sea wall, which are expected to enhance the town’s resilience, safety, and overall community development.
Constructed by Virgin Builders Construction, the multi-purpose facility was completed in February 2024.
It features improved comfort rooms, a stage, bleachers, and upgraded lighting and electrical systems.
According to the LGU, the facility now serves as a venue for sports, civic, and emergency response activities—promoting community engagement and disaster preparedness.
The sea wall rehabilitation, implemented by A.D. Pendon Construction & Supply Inc., was completed in October 2025.
The project includes reinforced slope protection, concrete canal systems, and solar-powered LED roadway lighting to improve coastal safety and reduce risks during high tides and storms.
Mayor Arnold Betita II thanked the implementing agencies for the initiatives, saying the projects symbolize unity and shared responsibility in protecting and serving the people of Carles.
Meanwhile, Rep. Binky April M. Tupas emphasized that the projects reflect accountable and transparent governance.
“The funds come from the people — I am merely an instrument to ensure these are used properly,” she said, adding that she will continue to visit communities across the district to assess local needs and monitor project implementation.
The turnover ceremony was attended by Board Member Doc Darl Tupas, Vice Mayor Earl Patrick Betita, officials from the DPWH Iloilo 3rd District Engineering Office, municipal and barangay officials, and representatives from the DepEd Carles District.
