ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Around P700,000 worth of properties were lost to a fire that razed the canteen of Rufina Andrada Santos Memorial School in Barangay VII, Roxas City Tuesday, July 4.
Fire Officer 3 Albert Amago, fire arson investigator of the Roxas City Fire Station, said the fire erupted at about 1:15 pm.
The canteen was gutted while the adjacent kindergarten building was damaged.
The conflagration lasted for 30 minutes before it was declared under control at about 1:45 pm.
Amago said that it was fortunate that no one got hurt as no teachers or students were in the area when the incident happened.
Arson investigators are still determining the cause of the fire.
But several observers claimed that the fire might have originated from a rice cooker or steamer which remained plugged.
The canteen used to be the kindergarten building and also served as the school stockroom.
