P5M lost to upholstery warehouse blaze

BACOLOD City – The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has initially reported that an estimated P5 million worth of properties were gobbled by a fire that gutted an upholstery warehouse at Villa Lucasan Subdivision, Barangay Mandalagan here yesterday.

According to Chief Inspector Rodel Legaspi, city fire marshal, thick black smoke billowed at the scene since textiles and plastics, which are considered flammable materials, were stored inside the warehouse.

“Ang ara to abi foam, tarpaulin, plastic, so kadamo gid stocks nila subong, and ang gina obra pa na atop sang canopy na daw plastic man,” Legaspi added.

Legaspi said the fire broke out past 2 p.m., destroying the warehouse and its neighboring shop.

The blaze also destroyed a sedan and a canter truck parked outside the compound. But authorities have yet to verify if the building owner also owned the vehicles.

No injuries were reported, as workers managed to get out of the warehouse immediately.

The fire also did not affect neighboring houses because of the firewall.

Arson investigators have yet to determine the cause of fire.
