BACOLOD City – Local police are probing the source of about two kilos of suspected shabu worth P13.9 million that was seized in a buy-bust in Barangay Bagacay, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental yesterday.
Arrested by police operatives was Ruel Mirambel, 48, of Barangay Talay, who is said to be a high value individual.
According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Joeson Parallag, city police chief, Mirambel was an alleged drug courier or runner.
“Parang inuutusan po siya na kunin iyong item tapos ide-deliver niya,” he added.
Parallag said that Mirambel disclosed to the police that the contraband, which was sealed in a Chinese tea bag, came from San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, and was supposed to be distributed to Cebu.
But police have yet to determine the primary source of the illegal drugs, pending the investigation.
“May nagtetext lang kasi sa kanya, so hindi matukoy if sino or saan ang source talaga,” Parallag said.
Parallag said that Mirambel was placed under monitoring for several months before he was subjected to the police operation.
He said that Mirambel was allegedly engaging in the illegal activity for about a year now.
Drug charges are being readied against Mirambel, who has yet to be reached for comment.
