BACOLOD CITY – At least 392 families, or 1,220 individuals, from nine areas in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, were displaced on Wednesday due to heavy rains caused by localized thunderstorms and the shearline.
The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) reported that the flooded areas included parts of Villa Sagrado in Barangay Burgos, sections of Barangay Caduhaan (Hacienda Maluga), Purok Ubos, Hacienda Bayabas, Hacienda Carmen, and the Troso Bridge area in Barangay Daga.
Other affected areas were portions of Purok Lag-asan, Barangay Tinampa-an, Villa Luisa, Barangay Luna, parts of Barangay Mabini (Hacienda San Fiel), and parts of Barangay Cabahug. The flooding also impacted the Umapog Bridge, Crossing Paho, and the Uso Bridge.
A total of 354 families, or 1,129 individuals, sought shelter in evacuation centers, while 38 families, or 91 individuals, stayed outside these facilities.
As of Jan. 9, the CDRRMO confirmed that floodwaters had subsided, allowing some evacuees to return home.
Due to heavy rainfall and the risk of further flooding, classes at all levels in both public and private schools were suspended on Jan. 8 and Jan. 9 and will resume today, Jan. 10.
Face-to-face classes have shifted temporarily to the Alternative Delivery Mode until the suspension is lifted.
The CDRRMO urged the public to avoid flooded areas, refrain from driving through floodwaters, and follow evacuation orders and safety instructions issued by local authorities.
