More than 13,000 barangay officials from 42 towns and one component city in Iloilo province are set to gather at the Iloilo Sports Complex on Aug. 24 for the culminating event of this year’s Liga ng mga Barangay Month celebration.
LNB Provincial President Amalia Victoria Debuque said this year’s theme, “Sa tunga sang pagalum kag pangduha-duha, isa kita” (Amid challenges and uncertainties, we are one), highlights unity and the Liga’s role in supporting barangay leaders.
“Last year, we had 11,400 participants. This year, we are both honored and delighted to welcome 13,300 barangay officials for our Liga Day. While this brings greater responsibility, it also challenges us to elevate the event compared to previous years,” she said.
She added that the provincial Liga has addressed concerns from past events, especially last year’s unexpected rain.
“We’ve learned from our mistakes. Last year it rained, so this time we prepared kits for participants, including umbrellas,” she noted.
Liga Day, the highlight of the month-long celebration, will feature sports activities, raffle draws, guest artist performances, and the Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangays (SGLGB) awarding ceremony, among others.
Debuque emphasized that the event is a chance for barangay officials—who work around the clock—to relax, celebrate, and build camaraderie.
The culminating event is expected to be attended by national LNB officials, Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr., Uswag Ilonggo Rep. Jojo Ang, and other provincial lawmakers.
