‘Oplan Galugad’ at Capiz jail yields drugs, contraband

ROXAS CITY, Capiz — Four sachets of suspected shabu and several contraband items were recovered during a surprise “Oplan Galugad” on the morning of Nov. 28 at the Capiz Rehabilitation Center (CRC) in Barangay Lawa-an.

CRC Provincial Jail Warden Arjuna Yngcong said the surprise inspection was jointly conducted by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) K9 Unit and the Philippine National Police (PNP).

The operation aimed to determine whether contraband continues to be smuggled into the provincial jail and whether persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) are engaged in illegal activities.

Among the recovered items were four sachets of suspected shabu—one from Cell 1 and three from Cell 3.

Authorities also recovered drug paraphernalia and several pointed objects.

Yngcong said CRC currently holds 343 PDLs, comprising 328 males and 15 females.

Cell 1 houses 107 PDLs; Cell 2 has 104; and Cell 3 contains 98.

A similar surprise inspection was conducted on July 9 this year, during which empty sachets of suspected shabu and drug paraphernalia were also recovered.

Police are currently investigating the source of the illegal drugs.
