Open house marks start of CAS Week celebration

The CAS Week 2026 officially opened with a simple yet meaningful opening program that brought together faculty, staff and students of the College of Arts and Sciences.

Joining the celebration was Prof. Peter Sy, assistant vice president for digital transformation, whose presence reflected the university’s continued support for CAS initiatives.

The announcement of the week’s activities and the invitation to the open house formally launched the series of events, marking the start of a vibrant CAS Week celebration.

On the afternoon of Feb. 16, the CAS Week 2026 Seminar Series “CASugilanon: Telling Stories of Science, Service, and Stewardship” convened faculty and students for a concise yet thought-provoking exchange of ideas.

Assistant Professor Dana P. Villanueva from the Department of Chemistry presented her research on zein-based nanotechnology, highlighting science in service of sustainable agriculture.

From the Division of Social Sciences, Assistant Professor Moniq M. Muyargas, Ph.D., explored critical inquiry and identity in “From Questions to Queer Horizons,” while Assistant Professor Jose Rene M. Sansait, Ph.D., examined the ethical evolution of Jane Goodall in “La Evolución de una Conciencia: Jane Goodall entre la etología y deontología.”

The afternoon sessions reflected CASugilanon’s commitment to science, service and stewardship.
