BACOLOD CITY – A couple lost their baby in a drowning incident in Barangay Zone-2, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental last Thursday.
Police Lieutenant Gina Fernandez, deputy police chief of Cadiz City Police Station, said the male victim, whose name was withheld, was playing in a tub with water outside their house, when his uncle left him for a while to go to the seashore.
Fernandez said the victim’s house is just near the sea. In fact, his mother was also at the seashore at that time watching her other kids who went swimming.
“Nag-assume lang sila na ato man lang to ang bata na gahampang sa tub,” she added.
Fernandez said the baby’s father was not at their house when it happened, as he was probably working.
Fernandez said it took about 30 minutes for the baby’s uncle to return to check on him. Unfortunately, the baby already drowned in the tub.
Fernandez said the baby was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
