EAST HANOVER, New Jersey — Supporters of One UPV Foundation (USA), Inc. braved a nor’easter on Sept. 26, 2026, to celebrate its 10th anniversary and raise funds for financially disadvantaged students of the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) and its extensions.
The gala at The Hanover Manor in East Hanover brought together alumni, donors, community leaders and education advocates to sustain assistance that helps students meet college expenses and complete their degrees.
Over the past decade, the foundation said it has disbursed more than PHP 10.6 million in grants and supported 78 college graduates, including nine magna cum laude and 61 cum laude honorees.
Its support has also extended to creative pursuits, with the foundation citing a Cinemalaya Top 12 finalist among the talents it has helped nurture.
UPV’s student handbook lists One UPV among its private scholarship providers, with eligibility requirements covering academic standing and demonstrated financial need.
The anniversary program featured cultural presentations, reflections and testimonials from scholarship recipients about how the assistance eased financial burdens and opened opportunities for students who might otherwise struggle to finish college.
An Oblation auction highlighted the University of the Philippines’ ideals of service and sacrifice, connecting the fundraising activity with the foundation’s commitment to developing future leaders through accessible education.
UP alumna Loida Nicolas Lewis served as guest speaker, bringing her experience as an author, philanthropist, attorney and former chair and chief executive officer of TLC Beatrice International.
Lewis became the first Asian woman to pass the New York State Bar without attending a United States law school.
During the gala, she signed copies of her book, “Why Should Guys Have All the Fun?”, and engaged with attendees.
Proceeds from the celebration will directly support the foundation’s continuing scholarship programs, which help cover textbooks, technology, transportation and living stipends so students can pursue their degrees without interruption.
Board Chair Lory Dolar emphasized the collective effort that has sustained the foundation over its first decade and challenged supporters to “dream bigger” by envisioning three times the organization’s impact by 2036.
“It doesn’t cost a centavo to dream,” Dolar said, urging supporters to continue investing in the next generation of UP scholars.
The foundation thanked the volunteers, sponsors, alumni and community members who made the anniversary celebration possible, citing their attendance and support despite the severe weather as an expression of the UP community’s shared belief in education’s capacity to change lives.
Entering its next decade, One UPV said it aims to expand its reach and strengthen its programs, helping more students complete their education through opportunities sustained by community support.
