On Aug. 29, rising global boy group ONE OR EIGHT kicked off a back-to-back single release with “Young & Reckless,” the first in their new “anthem of challenge” series—created for dreamers and those boldly embracing their individuality.
“Young & Reckless” taps into the concept of being “like a kid”—unafraid, unapologetic, and uninhibited. Produced by Kavi (co-producer of Tommy Richman’s Billboard Hot 100 No. 2 hit “Million Dollar Baby”) and Edwin Honoret of PRETTYMUCH, the track fuses futuristic electronic textures with nostalgic ’90s–’00s boy band energy. The single captures the rebellious and free-spirited essence at the core of ONE OR EIGHT.
The accompanying music video premiered Aug. 29 at 9 p.m. JST. It sets the tone for the next track in the series, “BET YOUR LIFE,” with each single exploring a different facet of fearless self-expression. Through “Young & Reckless,” ONE OR EIGHT delivers a potent rallying cry to live life fully and without hesitation.
Since their 2024 debut, ONE OR EIGHT has quickly made waves internationally. The all-Japanese group made history with back-to-back appearances on major Korean music shows with singles “DSTM” and “365”—a first for a Japanese act—and held fan meetings in six countries within their first year.
Their breakout hit “DSTM” became the first by a Japanese boy group to enter the U.S. Mediabase Top 40 radio chart. Building on that momentum, they recently signed a major global deal with Atlantic Music Group—marking a major leap in their international rise.
ONE OR EIGHT is an eight-member Japanese boy group—MIZUKI, NEO, REIA, RYOTA, SOUMA, TAKERU, TSUBASA and YUGA—named after the Japanese idiom ippuku ka yoka (“one or eight,” meaning “all or nothing”). With their rallying slogan “BET ON YOURSELF,” they stand for taking risks, chasing dreams, and pushing boundaries with fearless ambition.
The group debuted Aug. 16, 2024, with “Don’t Tell Nobody,” produced by Ryan Tedder (Taylor Swift, Adele, Jonas Brothers) and David Stewart (BTS), which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Japan Heatseekers Songs chart. Their 2024 collaboration with Big Sean, “KAWASAKI (with Big Sean),” peaked at No. 5 on the U.S. iTunes Hip-Hop/Rap chart. In 2025, they were named one of Nikkei Entertainment!’s 100 New Leading Artists and took home the Upcoming Dance & Vocal Group award at MTV VMAJ 2025.
