BACOLOD City – A motorcycle rider died while two others were wounded in a multiple vehicular collision at Crossing Bagong Dalan, Barangay Cabahug, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental last Wednesday.
The fatality was Arlo Galleron, 31, of Barangay Luna.
The wounded were Roger Decanay, 30, of Bacolod City; and Arturo Pateno, 42, of Barangay Magsaysay.
Police Lieutenant Gina Fernandez, deputy police chief of Cadiz City Police Station, said a dump truck driven by Joseph Coniendo, 53, of Sagay City was tailing a cargo truck when it encountered mechanical trouble.
Fernandez said that Coniendo lost control of the dump truck, which crashed into the cargo truck driven by Pateno.
Because of the impact, Pateno’s truck then collided into a tricycle that was parked on the roadside and swerved to the opposite lane where it again collided with two motorcycles driven by Galleron and Decanay.
Fernandez said Galleron died on the spot, while Decanay was referred to a hospital here due to head injuries and fractures.
She said that Pateno suffered minor injuries and was already discharged from the hospital.
Coniendo, who was unharmed in the accident, was released from police custody yesterday after the lapse of the reglementary detention period.
The victims’ families have yet to meet with Coniendo to discuss the case.
