BACOLOD CITY – A 33-year-old man was killed, and three others were injured after their tricycle crashed into a concrete pole in Barangay Lantad, Silay City, Negros Occidental, early Thursday.
The victim, identified as Jason Letran, 33, of Barangay X, Victorias City, died from head injuries after hitting the post. He was declared dead at a hospital.
The three injured passengers were Christopher Raquinel, 33, Jose Bernardino, 31, Aljun Damicog, 21, and Emi John Morales, 33, all residents of Barangay VI-A, Victorias City.
They sustained minor injuries and have since been discharged from the hospital.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Mark Anthony Darroca, chief of the Silay City Police, said the group was traveling from E.B. Magalona to Silay City proper at around 3:41 a.m. when Raquinel, who was driving the tricycle, lost control and struck a post.
Darroca suggested that Raquinel may have fallen asleep at the wheel, as they were traveling early that morning to buy fish products.
The victims have decided not to press charges against the driver.
