One killed, another wounded in shooting

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – A 28-year-old farmer died while his neighbor was seriously injured when the two figured in a stabbing and shooting incident Tuesday evening in Dumarao, Capiz.

Police identified the victim as Jose Iturriaga who succumbed to a fatal gunshot wound on the left side of the body inflicted by his neighbor Vincent Maxian, 34, of Sitio Tacay, Astorga, Dumarao.

Maxian, on the other hand, suffered a stab wound on the right side of his shoulder after he was stabbed by Iturriaga prior to the shooting incident.

Police investigation indicated that Iturriaga and Maxian met and argued over old grudges.

Police said Iturriaga took a knife and stabbed Maxian, but the latter fought back and shot the former.

Itturiaga was taken to Dra. Rebecca Basillano Clinic in Poblacion Dumarao where he was declared dead on arrival.

Maxian, on the other hand, was taken to Don Valerio Palmares Hospital in Passi City and later transferred to Iloilo Provincial Hospital in Pototan.

Meanwhile, punong barangay Remuel Dario of Brgy. Astorga confirmed that the two held grudges against each other.

Maxian is under hospital arrest.
