BACOLOD City – A man died while two others were wounded in a shooting incident at Barangay Tanza, E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental last Wednesday.
Killed was Romeo Magallanes III, 28, of Barangay E. Lopez, Silay City.
Angeline Magallanes, 32, of Silay City; and Wenifredo Diosto Jr., 46, of the said village were wounded.
Captain Joseth Catonina, E.B. Magalona police chief, said Romeo, along with his nieces and sister, went to the house of the suspect identified as 63-year-old Alejandro Selendron to visit Angeline, who is the latter’s live-in partner.
Catonina said Selendron accommodated Romeo and his companions and offered them lunch.
Before he went to bed, Selendron even bought Romeo liquor, which the latter drank along with his sister Angeline.
But when Selendron woke up, he claimed that his P90,000 cash kept inside his bedroom was short by P67,000, the town police chief said.
Selendron confronted Angeline, whom he claimed is the only person who knew about the money’s location, Catonina said.
A heated altercation happened between them, prompting Romeo to interfere and allegedly threatened Selendron with a knife, Catonina said.
Selendron returned to his bedroom and took his .9mm caliber pistol, and allegedly shot Romeo. Romeo managed to run away but the suspect chased and shot him again.
Selendron also shot Angeline while their neighbor Diosto was hit by a stray bullet.
Romeo suffered three gunshot wounds and was declared dead in a hospital, while Angeline and Diosto are confined to a hospital here.
Police recovered from the scene six empty shells and a slug of .9mm caliber ammunition.
Catonina said Selendron is detained at the police station for filing of murder and physical injuries charges.
