BACOLOD CITY — A drunken altercation claimed the life of a 45-year-old man and injured three others, including a village councilor, in Purok Langka, Barangay Odiong, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental, past midnight Friday.
The fatality was identified only as “Alfredo,” a resident of the village.
Wounded were Barangay Kagawad Arnel, 46, and two brothers identified as “Antonio,” 36, of La Castellana, and “Leo,” 31, of Barangay Odiong.
Police Lt. Arnolfo Robles, deputy chief of the Moises Padilla Municipal Police Station, said a heated argument broke out between Alfredo and the two brothers at a neighbor’s wake.
While heading home, Alfredo allegedly approached and stabbed the brothers, triggering a commotion.
The siblings reportedly retaliated and stabbed Alfredo in the left armpit.
The barangay official saw the incident and tried to intervene but was also stabbed, according to Robles.
Alfredo was declared dead at a hospital.
Arnel was referred to a private hospital in Bacolod City and is in critical condition due to a stab wound in the back.
The two suspects, who were arrested in a hot pursuit operation, are now recovering in a hospital in Isabela town.
Robles said there was no known prior conflict between Alfredo and the suspects, adding that the altercation was triggered by intoxication.
Appropriate charges are being prepared against the suspects.
