BACOLOD City – A woman died while a family of three and their companion were injured in a three-vehicle road crash at Barangay Mabini, Valladolid, Negros Occidental on Friday night.
Captain Wilfredo Benoman Jr., town police chief, identified the fatality as Anna Rose Villacampa of Barangay Paloma.
Wounded were Margel Aries, 40; Gel Marie Aries, 22, a 10-year-old boy, all residents of San Enrique town; and Keishia Ann Buenaflor, 21, of Bacolod City, according to the police.
Benoman said one of the wheels of a truck loaded with sugarcane exploded, causing the vehicle to swerve to the opposite lane that led to the collision.
The truck also crashed into a Honda Jazz that was tailing Villacampa’s multicab.
Benoman said it took a while for rescuers to remove Villacampa from her multicab because she got stuck due to the strong impact.
The four other wounded victims suffered minor abrasions.
The victims were on their way home when the accident occurred, which caused traffic congestion in the area.
Benoman said truck driver Rovico Baldevia, 48, of La Carlota City, is detained at the police station and will be released from police custody if no charges will be filed against him within the 18-hour reglementary detention period.
