DUMALAG, Capiz – Police suspect a longstanding grudge as the motive behind a hacking incident that left a mayoral candidate dead in Barangay Duran.
The Dumalag Municipal Police Station reported that the fatal altercation between two siblings occurred on the evening of November 16, 2024, and was witnessed by their father, Baldomero Felarca.
Authorities said Jose Sonny Felarca, 60, died instantly after being repeatedly hacked by his younger brother, 58-year-old Walter Felarca.
Baldomero, visibly emotional, recounted to police that he was at the back of the house when he overheard a heated argument between his sons. He approached them in an attempt to calm the situation.
Despite his efforts to intervene, the brothers ignored him. Walter then hacked Sonny on the head and other parts of his body, police said.
Walter fled the scene but later surrendered to authorities with the assistance of a barangay official.
The Dumalag police continue to investigate the incident as they prepare formal charges against the suspect.
