OFW wounded in Maayon shooting incident

ROXAS CITY, Capiz — A female overseas Filipino worker was confined in a hospital after she was shot Sunday evening, May 24, in Barangay West Villaflores, Maayon, Capiz.

Police identified the victim as alias Rachel, 57, of the village, while the suspect was identified as alias Noel, 30, single, a laborer and also a resident of the village.

Investigation by the Maayon Municipal Police Station showed that the victim and her husband were drinking inside their house when the suspect arrived and joined them.

While under the influence of liquor, the suspect allegedly uttered unpleasant words, prompting the victim to stop the drinking session.

The suspect went home, but a few minutes later, the victim heard a gunshot, which she ignored.

The victim and her husband later went outside the house to connect their cellphone to Wi-Fi at a nearby store when they found the suspect lying on the feeder road with an unidentified caliber of firearm tucked in his waist.

Police said the victim and the suspect grappled for possession of the firearm when he tried to get the gun.

The suspect allegedly accidentally pulled the trigger, causing the gun to fire and hit the victim in the leg.

The victim was brought to a hospital for treatment.

The suspect voluntarily surrendered to police and is under the custody of the Maayon Municipal Police Station for proper disposition.
