The San Beda Red Lions nipped the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, 65-63, in the do-or-die semifinal game of the Philippine Collegiate Champion League.
Calvin Oftana was a man on a mission chipping in 15 huge points including momentum-shifting baskets that paved the way toward their scoring run in the fourth.
The Red Lions imposed their will in the post, taking advantage of Bright Akhuetie’s absence.
UP star Ricci Rivero tried to banner his team with a game-high 27 points but could not sustain his effort until the clutch.
Ralph Peneula also came up big for the Red Lions, sparking up his team with 11 points to help carry some of the offensive load for San Beda.
The win will set-up a rivalry clash between them and four-time PCCL champs, the Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles.
