An 80-year-old woman was found dead inside her home in Leganes, Iloilo, on the morning of October 24.
The body of Josefina Gordon was discovered as Typhoon Kristine swept through her home in Sitio Moda, Barangay Lapayon, Leganes.
According to reports, barangay tanod Roberto Gailan immediately went to Gordon’s house after a tree fell on it.
Instead of rescuing her, Gailan was greeted by a foul smell.
He found Gordon’s body with her head resting on the floor.
Senior Master Sergeant Willy Aquidado, a Leganes police investigator, said the woman may have been dead for several days as her body was already in an advanced state of decomposition.
Gailan said he last saw Gordon on October 20.
The victim had allegedly mentioned that she wasn’t feeling well.
Aquidado said the woman may have suffered from asthma that went untreated.
Gordon had been living alone in her nipa hut for years. Her husband died long ago, and they had no children.
