MAYOR Oscar Garin Sr. of Guimbal, Iloilo is officially on leave from his duties.
The elder Garin went on sick leave effective Dec. 27, 2018, a day after he figured in the alleged mauling of a police officer in their town plaza.
Sangguniang Bayan member Mary Ann Suyao-Lujan temporarily took over his post.
But while the older Garin apparently chose a life away from the limelight, his son Rep. Oscar Richard Garin Jr. continued with his work in Congress.
In fact, Rep. Garin attended some public hearings being a ranking member of some major Congressional committees, a source said.
The incident involving the Garins and Police Officer 3 (PO3) Federico Macaya Jr. prompted the two embattled politicians to surrender their guns on orders of PNP Director General Oscar Albayalde
Days after the incident, Albayalde ordered the cancellation of all Permits to Carry Firearms outside of Residence (PTCFOR) and License to Own and Possess Firearms (LTOPF) issued by the PNP to father and son.
Mayor Garin was subsequently stripped of his deputation over the police.
The Garins and two John Does were also charged criminally and administratively for allegedly manhandling Macaya at gunpoint.
