Volleyball fever has taken over Cebu City as two unbeaten teams—Nxled and PLDT—collide in a high-stakes battle for Pool A supremacy and an automatic quarterfinal berth in the PVL On Tour.
Set for today at the USJ-R Coliseum, the matchup features two 3-0 squads eager to keep their records unblemished in front of a passionate volleyball crowd.
The Chameleons have been the surprise story of the pre-season tournament organized by Sports Vision, pulling off stunning wins over Petro Gazz and Choco Mucho before a dominant straight-sets victory against Galeries Tower on July 15.
Rookie sensation Lyann de Guzman has led the charge, scoring back-to-back standout performances against the Angels and the Flying Titans.
Veterans Chiara Permentilla, EJ Cariño, and Jovelyn Fernandez have also stepped up, helping Nxled emerge as a legitimate contender.
PLDT, however, brings experience and firepower to the floor.
Coach Rald Ricafort has guided the High Speed Hitters to two straight-sets wins and one four-set victory, anchored by the dominant net presence of Majoy Baron and Mika Reyes.
Kim Dy and Jovie Prado, returning from injury, add veteran leadership, while rising star Kiesha Bedonia provides depth and dynamism across the court.
More than just a game, today’s showdown is billed as a tactical duel and a test of endurance, with both teams hungry for a statement win and the Cebu crowd sure to add intensity.
Cebu, long considered a volleyball hotbed, has recently launched its own V-League to further develop local talent, solidifying its reputation as a southern sporting hub.
Meanwhile, Farm Fresh remains in contention for the Last 8 with a 2-1 record and faces Nxled tomorrow in a crucial match that could result in a tie for second place—depending on today’s result.
Fresh off back-to-back wins over Choco Mucho and Petro Gazz, the Foxies are riding momentum and will lean on the core of Trisha Tubu, Caitlin Viray, and Jolina dela Cruz, as well as rookie setter Alohi Robins-Hardy.
Veteran Rachel Anne Daquis provides leadership as Farm Fresh looks to secure a quarterfinal slot.
Winless Galeries Tower, led by Jewel Encarnacion, Ysa Jimenez, and France Ronquillo, hopes to finally get on the board.
Rookie Jean Asis brings energy, while skipper Roselle Baliton adds poise as they aim to disrupt Farm Fresh’s campaign.
But the spotlight remains on Nxled vs. PLDT—a showdown of youthful fire and seasoned grit in a volleyball-loving city ready to erupt.
