BACOLOD City – A nurse and a teacher were killed in a road accident at Barangay Caduhaan, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental on Friday.
The fatalities were John Paul Ladrillo, 30, of Barangay Zone 1, a nurse; and John Eurich Depasupil, 28, of Barangay Banquerohan, a teacher, according to Corporal Dindo Ebag, traffic investigator of Cadiz City Police Station.
Ebag said the accident happened when a motorcycle driven by Ladrillo allegedly overtook a 10-wheeler truck loaded with sugarcane.
The motorcycle swerved and Ladrillo lost control of the bike.
The victims were thrown off the bike and were run over by the moving truck which was on its way to Victorias City, the traffic investigator added.
Ebag said Depasupil died on the spot while Ladrillo expired at the hospital.
Ebag said both victims had helmets, but they did not wear it.
The truck driver fled to the barangay hall fearing for his safety, but he later surrendered to the police, Ebag said.
“Nakibot siya sang gulpi lang may nakita siya na motor sa tubang niya, kinulbaan siya siguro,” he added.
A settlement is pending between the truck driver and the victims’ families.
