A nurse is the first person arrested in Western Visayas for violating the election liquor ban.
Kirby Adriatico, 39, a native of Dipolog City but presently staying at Barangay Balabag, Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan, was arrested at the beach front near Globy Travelling Chef.
Members of the Malay Police Station were patrolling the area when they received a complaint from a certain Neptalie Dumalaog.
The complainant sought police assistance after one of their guests failed to pay for the drinks and food they consumed.
Before he was arrested, Adriatico reportedly ordered a bucket of beer and took it out of the bar early morning of May 8, 2022.
Police claimed that Adriatico was already lying on the beach when police arrived. He allegedly offered his mobile phone as collateral for his unpaid orders.
The suspect was taken into police custody for violation of Section 261 of the Commission on Elections Resolution No. 10746 in relation to Batas Pambansa 881 or the Omnibus Election Code of the Philippines, as amended.
The liquor ban took effect across the country on May 8 and 9, 2022 as part of the security measures for the national and local elections.
The Comelec issued Resolution No. 10746 imposing the prohibition on selling, furnishing, offering, buying, serving, or taking intoxicating liquor during the identified period.
