The town of Nueva Valencia in Guimaras hosted the Pambansang Museo sa Barangay, a travelling exhibition of the National Museum of the Philippines Iloilo, on Sept. 9, 2025 at the Municipal Function Hall.
A total of 80 elementary pupils participated, from the following: Nueva Valencia Elementary School, San Roque Elementary School, Lucmayan Elementary School, Salvacion Elementary School, Igang Elementary School, Igdarapdap Elementary School, Cabalagnan Elementary School and La Paz Elementary School.
The exhibition is one of the town’s activities held in celebration of the Municipal Tourism Month. With the theme, “Sustainable Transformation” the activity was aimed to nurture the children’s appreciation of their natural and cultural heritage – from their pristine beaches, rich marine biodiversity, lush islands, thriving mangrove ecosystem, among others.
Mayor Emmanuel C. Galila lauded the enthusiasm and energetic participation of the pupils, especially in the interactive learning activities. He is looking forward to let more pupils have the same experience through the town’s active partnership with the National Museum of the Philippines Iloilo.
The NMP Iloilo offers activities that enhances the students’ learning experience outside the classroom. Aside from the museum boxes, the learners also enjoyed playing “What’s in the Box?” and participate in the art and science workshops like rock art, sandbox archaeology, and upcycling art. Others read books, and listened to stories told by the staff.
The Pambansang Museo sa Barangay is a universal access program of NMP Iloilo. Over the years, it has been democratizing the access to the National Collections through a travelling exhibition, to cultural and artistic experiences through the workshops, and to informal education and lifelong learning through the interactive lectures.
