Regine Diego will be taking over the helm of the National University (NU) Lady Bulldogs volleyball program confirmed on Sept. 3, 2025.
The former UAAP libero turned mentor replaced the winningest coach in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL), Sherwin Meneses, who no longer renewed his one-year contract with the Lady Bulldogs.
According to multiple reports, Meneses parted ways with NU after his contract expired, paving the way for Diego’s replacement for their upcoming UAAP championship title defense.
It was a short but sweet ride for Meneses after his one-and-done stint with the Lady Bulldogs resulted in a golden trophy, steering the talented lineup of Bella Belen, Alyssa Solomon, Lams Lamina, and Vange Alinsug to a back-to-back UAAP feat.
Despite Meneses’ exit, Diego is no stranger to the UAAP volleyball landscape. This will become more of a homecoming for the tactician, as she previously handled the NU girls’ high school team in 2019.
That squad, led by Belen and Solomon, won the UAAP Season 82 girls’ championship under the guidance and leadership of Diego.
Since that title run, Diego failed to return in the UAAP and decided to take her coaching prowess to the now defunct F2 Logistics Cargo Movers in the PVL.
Diego’s new coaching approach helped the former Philippine Superliga (PSL) queens qualify in consecutive PVL playoff stages, but the ultimate goal of winning the chip always fell out of their hands.
After almost three seasons of coaching F2 Logistics, Diego’s PVL career came to an end when the Cargo Movers disbanded its pro volleyball squad two years ago.
Boosted by her collegiate and pro coaching experiences, Diego will become NU’s fourth head coach in three years and is the new chief tasked to lead the Lady Bulldogs to a Grand Slam later this year.
