BACOLOD City – A 60-year-old alleged supporter of the New People’s Army (NPA) voluntarily surrendered to the police and military in Barangay Canlusong, E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental last Friday.
The name of the elderly man, who is from Cadiz City, was withheld.
Police Captain Judesses Catalogo, public information officer of Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) here, said the elderly man alleged that he was a member of an organization which is considered a legal front of the NPA.
Catalogo said that the former NPA supporter reached out to the authorities through the localized peace engagement.
He also turned over a hand grenade and a .38 caliber revolver without serial number.
Catalogo said that he will be screened to verify his alleged link with the group and will be assessed if he could avail the programs of the government.
Catalago also said that police will have to check his background if he has cases.
The surrendered explosive will be disposed while the firearm will be checked for verification, Catalogo said.
