Novak Djokovic extends record for most weeks as world no. 1 ranked male player

Novak Djokovic just achieved another historic feat after extending his record as the world’s no. 1 ranked male tennis player for 414 weeks confirmed on February 26, 2024 by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP).

The ATP released a fresh list of rankings two days ago, further pushing Djokovic’s record-extending streak as the best male player in the sport.

Djokovic now widened his gap to Roger Federer’s previous record of 310 weeks built from the 9,855 points he accumulated.

Despite losing in the semifinals of the Australian Open, Djokovic still reigned supreme as world no. 2 Carlos Alcaraz failed to repeat his Wimbledon success in the following Grand Slam events.

With the recent turn of events, Djokovic now established a commanding 1.050-point lead to Alcaraz, who sits at no. 2 with a total of 8,805 points.

Djokovic is now having one of his most dominant runs in the Grand Slam scene after winning three out of the four during last year’s playing calendar.

The Serbian superstar headed to the Grand Slam fever on an all-time high after raking the Australian Open and the French Open. However, Alcaraz spoiled his all-year sweep after edging him at Wimbledon. Djokovic would later on redeem himself and ended his 2023 with a US Open championship title.

Djokovic is currently undergoing his intensive training camp as the 2024 French Open is set to begin on June 9, 2024.

If he wins Roland Garros, Djokovic will have the chance to extend his record to four more months and will cement his name as one of the best to ever set foot on the tennis court.
