Former world No. 1, now retired tennis star Andy Murray, will no longer mentor Novak Djokovic in his quest for his 25th Grand Slam championship title.
The end of the coaching partnership was announced by Djokovic himself on May 13, 2025, via a social media post that surprised the whole professional lawn tennis community.
“Thank you, coach Andy, for all the hard work, fun, and support over the last six months on and off the court. I really enjoyed deepening our friendship together,” Djokovic posted on his official X account.
The pair forged their formal coaching relationship on November 24, 2024, after Djokovic parted ways with his longtime head coach Goran Ivanisevic.
Throughout their six-month campaign, Djokovic was a win away from reaching the grand finals of the Australian Open but his hopes were shattered when he was forced to retire against Alexander Zverev in the semifinals due to an injury.
After his bid for the Grand Slam stage, Djokovic qualified for the championship round of the Miami Open, but lost against the younger and quicker Jakub Mensik.
With no Grand Slam and major ATP title added to his list of achievements, Djokovic and his camp decided to make another coaching change, but his next chief tactician is yet to be announced.
Before turning into allies, both tennis stars shared the court as opponents 36 times, including several memorable Grand Slam and ATP major battles.
“We had some of the most epic battles in our sport. They called us game-changers, risk-takers, history-makers,” added the Serbian stalwart.
Djokovic will only have three more Grand Slam events left to join this year, and his first test post- Murray era will be in the clay court of the French Open, followed by the prestigious Wimbledon event and the US Open.
As of this writing, Djokovic has yet to confirm if he already has a new head coach in preparation for the Roland Garros Grand Slam event.
