Novak Djokovic’s quest for a record-extending 25th Grand Slam title will now be overseen under a new coaching supervision announced on May 21, 2025.
A week after a surprising coaching split with Andy Murray, Djokovic just found the new guy that would mentor him once the 2025 French Open kicks off, and that is Dusan Vemic, a fellow Serbian who previously became a part of his team when he clinched the 2016 Miami Open.
“Dusan Vemic, he was on my team a few years ago with Marian Vajda. He’s here, so he’s going to be here with me in Geneva and Roland Garros,” Djokovic spoke to reporters before his first game in the Geneva Open.
Vemic was one of the most explosive players in his prime way back in the early 2000s and has reached a career high of No. 146 in the singles category but was more active in the doubles scene, achieving the No. 31 rank in 2009.
He is the captain of the Serbian BJK Cup Team, but Djokovic confirmed that he will be hands-on with him until the end of the Roland Garros tournament.
When Djokovic was still new in the professional scene, Vemic partnered him in several doubles tournaments and became one of his early mentors.
Before accepting the job, Vemic worked with several successful players, including the unstoppable tandem of the Bryan brothers, Andrea Petkovic, and Brandon Nakashima.
Vemic’s first assignment would be tough, as Djokovic is coming off a series of disappointing results in the Australian Open and the Miami Opens.
Djokovic was a win away from reaching the grand finals of the Australian Open but his hopes were shattered when he was forced to retire against Alexander Zverev in the semifinals due to an injury.
After his bid for the Grand Slam stage, Djokovic qualified for the championship round of the Miami Open, but lost against the younger and quicker Jakub Mensik.
Can Vemic and their Serbian connection reverse the fortunes of Djokovic and help him return to the best tennis shape of his life?
