BACOLOD City – The Negros Occidental High School (NOHS) here sought the assistance of the Technological University of the Philippines–Visayas (TUPV) for patenting the projects and inventions of the students.
This was disclosed by NOHS principal Mario Amaca last Tuesday during the opening of the science month celebration at the said school.
Amaca said the students, through their creative minds were able to work on a research for their Science Investigatory Project, which paved way for new technology and discovery.
Amaca said they would like the discovery and technology of the students to be patented, but “patenting is expensive,” he added.
“If there’s a patent, their invention will be exclusively theirs, he said.
Fortunately, NOHS already has a verbal agreement with TUPV, he said.
The school also partnered with other institutions to use their laboratories for the students’ experiments.
They provided us with the facility, while the students only have their ‘hands-on manipulation,’ he said.
According to Yvonne Vargas, NOHS Science Department head, there are a lot of pending projects that needed to be patented.
“This is in the span of 20 years. We have students who won national awards for their inventions,” she added.
