BACOLOD City – An escapee of the Negros Occidental District Jail (NODJ) in Bago City was recaptured at Barangay Odiong, Moises Padilla town last Wednesday after 24 days of hiding.
Jimmy Sablon of Barangay Robles, La Castellana town was found hiding in an abandoned hut at the said village around 10:35 a.m.
Senior Inspector Norberto Miciano, provincial administrator of Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP)-Negros Occidental, said they received information about Sablon’s whereabouts in the area, prompting them to proceed there for verification.
Miciano said they are still investigating how Sablon was able to travel from Bago City to the said town, when he escaped from the jail on August 31, along with Ramonito Ventura, who was first recaptured in Murcia town on September 4.
“Basi nag hitch siya sa mga salakyan na naglabay or dekarga,” he added.
Miciano said Sablon and Ventura are presently placed at the Metro Bacolod District Jail (MBDJ) – male dormitory annex extension in Barangay Handumanan here, for quarantine due to their exposure outside amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
Sablon has a pending case for frustrated murder, while Ramonito Ventura was charged for robbery. Both bolted out of the jail by cutting the steel bar of their respective dormitories.
Miciano said they are still waiting for the result of the investigation to determine the additional charges to be filed against them in relation to their escape.
The two escapees were all accounted.
Meanwhile, he said that the P30,000 reward for Sablon’s arrest was already given to the informant.
