BACOLOD City – The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) here is all set to use body cameras in police operations.
Police Lieutenant Abegael Donasco, Nocppo’s information officer, said that all police chiefs and operation personnel have completed a seminar on the use of the body cameras.
As of this writing, all city police stations in the province have 16 body cameras each, while they are still waiting for the arrival of additional cameras for the municipal police stations, Donasco said.
She added that they are waiting for the go signal to use the body cameras during police operations, especially in the campaign against illegal drugs and wanted persons.
The use of body cameras can help the police show to the public the legitimacy of police operations.
Donasco said they will also have to discuss privacy matters, especially if public viewing of the footage is allowed.
