BACOLOD City – Mayor Nicolas Yulo of Bago City, Negros Occidental on Monday assured that there is no African Swine Fever case (ASF) in their area.
Yulo told reporters here that the two hogs in Bacolod City that tested positive for ASF recently were indeed brought to Barangay Lag-asan here but died two weeks later in Barangay Taculing, Bacolod City.
He said if the hogs were already positive for ASF while in Bago City, they could have died three days after.
He added that blood pool samples sent by local government units (LGUs) to the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Animal Industry were all negative for ASF.
“There is no ASF here in Bago City, only hog cholera,” Yulo said.
Yulo said that what has affected the swine industry in the locality is hog cholera.
At least five percent of the hog population or around 22,000 died from hog cholera, the mayor further said.
He said the local government is still finding ways how to extend assistance to the affected hog raisers.
He explained that the local disaster fund cannot be utilized at the moment since the affected hogs have not reached 30 percent of the total population.
