BACOLOD CITY — A 37-year-old man linked by authorities to the New People’s Army (NPA) was arrested Tuesday in Santa Catalina, Negros Oriental.
The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) identified the suspect as alias “Jov,” who was ranked as the region’s top most wanted person.
Police said the suspect was allegedly affiliated with the Rachelle Mae Palang Command, Southeast Front, and Komiteng Rehiyon Negros, Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor-D.
The operation stemmed from warrants of arrest issued against the suspect for murder, with no bail recommended.
He was brought to the Santa Catalina Municipal Police Station for custody.
PRO-NIR said the arrest underscored the regional police office’s commitment, together with its partner units, to locate individuals wanted by the courts and place them under lawful custody.
“A warrant carries the authority of the court, and our duty is to see that authority enforced. This is a clear result of our personnel’s focus and determination in carrying out that duty,” said Brig. Gen. Rudecindo Reales, PRO-NIR director.
Reales warned that law enforcement authorities would continue pursuing wanted persons wherever they may be and bring them before the judicial process.
In a statement, Police Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., chief of the Philippine National Police, said authorities would continue strengthening operations against wanted persons, particularly those facing serious cases.
“Sisiguraduhin nating maipatutupad ang batas nang may pananagutan at paggalang sa tamang proseso,” he added.
