The victim was identified as 28-year-old Wrogbe, a US citizen, who was billeted at a pension house on Burgos Street in La Paz when the incident happened.
Police said a female police officer informed Iloilo City Police Station 2 that her niece’s foreign boyfriend had been brought to West Visayas State University Medical Center in Jaro District following a medical emergency.
When police investigators arrived at the hospital, the attending physician declared the victim dead at 9:10 p.m.
According to the pension house manager, the victim arrived in Iloilo City at about 11 a.m. on Thursday.
He checked in at the inn two hours later.
At about 6 p.m., he went downstairs to fetch his girlfriend, 26-year-old Bessie. They stayed in his room.
Bessie told investigators they were in the room when the victim suddenly experienced body stiffening and severe pain.
When the pain did not subside after 10 minutes, she sought assistance from the staff of the establishment.
Members of the Iloilo City Emergency Responders brought the victim to the hospital.
Capt. Gimel Acuesta, chief of Iloilo City Police Station 2, said the victim appeared to have died of cardiac arrest.
His girlfriend also told investigators that he was taking medication.
